JOHN WESTEINDE P.Eng

His construction career started in 1962, working with major construction firms in the United Kingdom, Ontario and Nova Scotia. In 1971 he came to Ottawa to join the Fuller Group and soon became vice-president of its Construction Management Division. He then established Westeinde Construction Ltd in 1978, and subsequently a number of associated companies forming the Westeinde Group.

In 1974-75 he provided leadership by serving as president of the General Contractors Association of Ottawa. This was followed by presidencies of the Ottawa Construction Association and the Ontario General Contractors Association. At the national level, he became active in the Canadian Construction Association, serving first as its representative on the Metric Commission's Construction Sector Committee. This was followed by long-term service in the CCA as a Director, Committee and General Contractors Council Chair, and its representative on the Canadian Construction Research Board, of which he was Vice-Chair.

He was the very first recipient of the CCA's Saunders Memorial Award in recognition of his commitment and dedication in support of the construction industry. Recently he was made an Honorary Life Member of the CCA. He was Founding Co-Chair of the Canadian Design-Build Institute, Member of the National Advisory Board of the Master Specification Program, and Chair of the Canadian Construction Innovation Council. On the local scene, John has served as president of his Community Association, Trustee of the Perley Hospital Foundation, and Director of the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
